Open Source 3D/Game engine

before everyone rushes off to implement their own c# 3D engine I would like to point out that there are two open source .net codebases ripe for adoption into XNA.

the Axiom engine, a c# port of the well respected OGRE engine ground to a halt a year or so ago. The XNA community have much to gain by ressurecting this basically complete renderer

realmforge GDK, a .NET MMO Game engine based upone AXIOM - originally open source, has now gone commercial under a new name (and new codebase aparrently), but the original source of this remains available

for this kind of community open source is the way to go...

The guy that created the Axiom engine has been on these forums already so might be thinking about porting it to XNA. I don't remember what he's posted and am too lazy to search right now.

it is coming to XNA under the Visual3d (commercial) badge - Fair play to them, they have put the work in and deserve a payoff - I understand they will also be offering free non commercial licences which is admirable . I'm just pointing out that it would be better for the community to pick up the available free codebase rather than start from scratch - one only has to look at the Blender project to see how open source can outpace commercial software given a large enough community.
