Architecture for OLAP

Question 1:

Does the underlying database structure have to be star or snowflake i.e. fact and dimension tables in order to feed OLAP cubes?

For example, if I were starying all of my data in a single table (facts and dimensions included) could I still efficiently create OLAP cubes in MS Analysis Services without any long, drawn-out intermediate steps?
