Sorry,

but I can′t understand.

In the Sharepoint Designer you create the Workflow for a Sharepoint Portal, or a Sharepoint Site. I think the first or second step is to define, when the Workflow has to start:

  1. a new item is created
  2. an item is changed
  3. manually

After creating, you have to go to the Sharepoint list, documentbib where the workflow shall be started. A new column will be created, so you can see if the workflow has worked fine.

Have a nice day

I will try to explain again.

In Sharepoint Designer you can design a new workflow for a sharepoint site. When i want to create one i get the error: cannot load the workflow.

I start the tool: file -> new -> workflow

I want to use this because i cannot add actions to a workflow when i add a workflow on the site.

Ok, we missunderstood,

Please check first, if the settings for userdefined Workflows are activated.

You check this in the Central Administration --> Application... (I have a german installation) . There you will find Workflowsettings. Here has to be activated userdefined Workflows.

Then start the designer --> open the website (File --> Website open) and then File --> New --> Workflow.

If all this has not worked fine, then delete the Sharepoint Designer from your System and install it a second time, or install the Sharepoint designer test version from the micorsoft download site. This one works fine.

Good luck

Hi,

I checked the usedefined workflow properties, it was set to enabled, so that's fine.

Then i re-installed Office Sharepoint Designer 2007 and i still got the same error. I download the TEST/TRAIL version from the microsoft site, installed it and still got the error.

I can't find a solution on the internet.

Do i have to install other software beside: Sharepoint services 3.0 and Sharepoint designer 2007?

Is there an other way to get the workflow options you can set in Sharepoint Designer?

thank you in advance

Willem

Have you installed .Net 3 on the same machine as SharePoint Designer?

You'll need the Workflow Foundation component in it to create custom workflow solutions, I think.

Hello,

My SP Designer was creating workflows well on my client XP machine untill I installed, dotnetfx.exe, .net 2. Afterwhich the message "Failed to load the workflow" appeared, I then upgraded to .net 3 in hope to resolve the problem, nothing, reinstalled .net 3, nothing, then reinstalled SP designer and checked that Workflow setting in Central Administration is on, nothing seems to work.

Has anyone found a solution for this?

A colleague and I are seeing the same error on his machine. Interestingly, when we run SharePoint Designer as a different user (me instead of him) on the same machine, the error does not appear. In other words:

  1. We're log into my colleague's machine with my colleague's domain login.
  2. We click Start > Programs > Microsoft Office, then hold [shift] and right-click on SharePoint Designer, then click Run As...
  3. We select the radio buttton to run as a different user, and I enter my domain login and password.
  4. SharePoint Designer opens, and we can create a new workflow without error.

Everything else is the same: same machine, same web site that we're opening in SharePoint Designer... That seems to suggest it's a problem with user registry settings. Question is, which one(s)?

After extensive pounding of my head against the wall, I found something that worked in my situation in regard to this error. I went to Documents and Settings > (my account) > Application Data > Microsoft > SharePoint Designer > ProxyAssemblyCache, deleted the folder in there, and when I restarted SharePoint Designer and started a new workflow, it obtained the information from the server and opened the workflow. Hope this helps!

Silly question, but you are loading the site you want to create the workflow with first, right?

This solution posted by SM_SSRS worked perfectly for me. Thanks!
