Query Server Syncronisation Error

We have the following MOSS farm configuration:

two load balanced wfe/query server
one index/application server
one SQL Server server (not clustered)

One the wfe/query server that was first added to the farm, we are receiving the errors shown at the bottom of this email. This error does not appear on the second server.

It appears that the indexes are being propagated correctly, but the syncronisation information is not being written correctly, although the two servers appear to be configured identically.
